Background to the Club

Gems were formed in 98/99 by a small group of friends, we were very successful from the start, consecutively winning every Division we played in and worked our way up to winning the top Division’s in Kingston Surrey and the County League, winning the County league led to us entering the Regional League where we will be playing our 5th season. This is when we increased our membership to run 2 squads and also entered the Polytechnic League. (For more details of history please refer to the History of the club page)

Our squads and coaching

Both squads play a very good standard of netball. The 1st squad plays Regional Div 2 and Poly Div 1. The 2nd play Surrey Prem A and Kingston Div 1.

We have recently changed our coaching structure; Joan our coach from the beginning has stepped down but continues as our Chairman, we are lucky to have 3 very passionate Gems members who are highly qualified, and very enthusiastic coaches.

Kate who was Joan’s very able assistant last season and took charge of the Surrey/Kingston squad becomes our Head Coach. Lou 1 and Shannon will be Kate’s assistants. This enables the club to make sure there is a coach at every game, which of course is so important to making those crucial decisions at match time, and give the squad direction.

Club Fees and kit

Our club offers you excellent value; our fees are £112.50 plus the compulsory England Netball affiliation fee of £27.50, a total of £140. (For anyone who has already been affiliated for the 11/12 season with another club you do not have to pay this again.) The fee for under 18’s is less and Gemma will inform you of the amount if appropriate. The EN fee must be paid by August 19th to enable us to pay our fees to EN before the commencement of the season.

The fee covers training, matches, and umpires fees, the only other expense you will have is the kit.

We wear black dresses with red piping, black track bottoms and a Gems fleece. Together the kit would work out at about £60. If it is necessary for you to discuss the payment of fees or kit then please feel free to talk to our treasurer Gemma who will work out something to suit both parties.

The social side!

We are a friendly club and enjoy socializing. Our social secretary – Maddy -will be working hard this season to set up some club evenings and events. We have a tour every year and is usually very well supported and enjoyed by all.

Our club ethos is, to be respectful of our own members, umpires and opposition. Your efforts and behaviour on and off the court will always do yourselves and Gems proud. We will play our netball to the highest standard we can achieve with our team whilst showing good sportsmanship at all times.

Your coaches will work towards giving you training sessions aimed at improving your personal development, improving your skills base and tactical awareness. As mentioned earlier our coaches are always happy to discuss any issues you may have.
